Horsham and District Soccer Association books its place in the finals

HORSHAM and District Soccer Club’s senior outfit has almost certainly secured a finals berth after Sebastopol Vikings Gold forfeited its round 17 game scheduled for Sunday.

It will be the first time the senior side has played finals soccer since it joined the Ballarat and District Soccer Association in 2012.

Falcons coach Elijah Macchia said his side had managed to play consistent soccer throughout most of the season.

“We started the season with plenty of numbers which gave us that added depth that we really needed,” he said. “That allowed us to cover for the loss of players during the middle stage of the season. Plus we’ve added a few more to the squad along the way.”

The team’s core group has allowed it to maintain its form despite changing lineups.

“James Hibberd, Reuben Macchia and Jake Hinton have been driving forces each Sunday,” coach Macchia said.

Sebastopol’s forfeit means the Falcons sit in third spot on 36 points, six points clear of Ballarat White in fifth who will face Ballarat North United on Sunday.

A Ballarat White win would close the gap to three points but the side is unlikely to close the 10 goal goal difference margin. The Falcons will face tenth-placed Daylesford in the final home and away game who they beat 4-1 in round seven.
